A 78-year-old Fairfield woman drowned Monday night in the pool at her Rifle Road home, according to published reports. Police said Blanka Nadela ate dinner with her husband and then went for her routine swim. Her husband, Jiri, 82, looked out the window while washing dishes and saw Blanka floating face down in the pool, according to police. He raced, screaming, to the pool and pulled his wife out with the help of a neighbor.
Police said a Westport EMT who was off-duty and at a nearby party heard the screams and responded to the Nadela home. He performed CPR on Blanka until the Fairfield Fire Department arrived at 7:36 p.m. She was unresponsive when she was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.
Blanka Nadela was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m., police said.
An autopsy was to be performed Tuesday. Police said they do not believe her death was suspicious, but was a tragic accident.
