Fairfield Democrats and Republicans were in synch with state voters in every race Tuesday, according to election officials. They chose Dan Malloy and Tom Foley in Democratic and Republican gubernatorial primaries. Linda McMahon won the Republican nod for the U.S. Senate seat Chris Dodd will vacate and will face Richard Blumenthal in the general election.
At least 2,439 Democrats (24 percent) and 2,714 Republicans (26 percent) turned out across the town's 10 districts. Those percentages were on par with the 25-30 percent turnout Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz reported for the state overall.
In the gubernatorial primaries Malloy defeated Ned Lamont 1,447-992, while Foley defeated Michael Fedele and Oz Griebel (1,225-982-507).
Nancy Wyman won Fairfield 1,564-791 over Mary Messina Glassman in the Democratic lieutenant governor primary. On the Republican side, Mark Boughton won Fairfield by a narrow 1,282-1,197 margin over Lisa Wilson-Foley.
McMahon won statewide 49-28 percent, but in Fairfield the primary was closer. McMahon received 1,386 votes. Peter Schiff was the runnerup with 759 votes, while Rob Simmons had 598, a deviation from state results.
Dan Debicella easily won the Republican nomination to face incumbent Jim Himes in the 4th District Congressional race. He received 1,549 votes to 680 for Bridgeport's Rick Torres and 455 for Rob Merkle.
In the underticket races, Denise Merrill won Fairfield Democrats' nod for Secretary of the State over Gerald Garcia (1,462-722), Kevin Lembo won the Democratic vote for comptroller, 1,615-655, over Michael Jarjura, and Martha Dean won the Republican nomination for attorney general over Ross Garber, 1,626-633.
