Fairfield Mom Accused of Shoplifting With Baby

Police caught a shoplifter in Fairfield Tuesday with an unlikely accomplice -- her 2-year-old daughter. Security at Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue saw Stacey Flanagan, 40, of Fairfield attempting to leave the store with more than $400 in groceries without paying, according to the police report. They detained her with her baby until Fairfield Police arrived.

Flanagan did pay for a collection of DVDs, cigarettes and lottery tickets at the customer service desk on her way out. But she did not pay for the $431.72 in groceries in her cart, or the $421 pricing gun belonging to the store. Flanagan told police she forgot to pay because she was in a rush to pick up her other child from school.

Police charged Flanagan with fifth-degree larceny, and released her at the scene on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 27.

? The owner of Classic Car Gallery at 3266 Post Road in Southport reported vandalism to three of his vehicles earlier this week. According to the report, a 2009 black Mercedes-Benz, a 2001 green Jaguar, and a 1965 Ford Mustang were scratched, apparently with keys, sometime between the night of Dec. 11 and the morning of Dec. 14. The damage will take an estimated $3,000 to repair. Police are still investigating the incident.

? Police charged Christopher Benton, 18, of Villa Avenue with carrying a dangerous weapon Thursday morning. The arresting officer pulled Benton over at the corner of Villa Avenue and Tunxis Hill Road for failing to obey a traffic signal. During the stop, Benton admitted to having a set of brass knuckles in his pocket. He was released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 27.
