Fairfields Fire Commission witnessed a changing of the guard last week. Commissioner Anthony Jannotta stepped down as the boards chair, and Dr. Thomas Christie took his place as head of the seven-member body. Taking Christies place as secretary of the commission is Charlene Lebo.
Im appreciative that my fellow commissioners would honor me with this position, said Lebo of her election. I am looking forward to the coming year, not only serving the Fairfield Fire Department and its commission, but also our community.
Christie, a local orthodontist, recently completed the FireOps 101 program presented by the Fairfield, Stratford and Westport Fire Fighters Associations at the Fairfield Regional Fire School. Along with his five years of service on the Fire Commission, Christie has also worked with many other volunteer organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield, Fairfield Rotary (where he was director and president) and the American Legion. He also previously served on the towns Golf Commission.
Lebo served on Fairfields Representative Town Meeting from 1991 until stepping down to join the Fire Commission in 2008. She has taken part in many civilian training courses for emergency responders, including the Fairfield Citizen Police Academy in 1997, and the Fairfield Citizen Fire Academy in 2002. She joined the newly formed Fairfield Citizen Corps Council in 2004 as assistant coordinator, became a Citizen Police Academy Alumni Associate in 2008, and is currently a member of Fairfields Civilian Emergency Response Team.
