CVS Robber With Fake Gun is Nabbed

Fairfield police arrested Andre Gainer of Norwalk for robbing the CVS pharmacy on Black Rock Turnpike Tuesday around 9:45 p.m. He was nabbed near the Marlboro Terrace home of his girlfriend soon after the hold-up.

Police spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said Gainer, 46, entered the CVS and asked to speak to the manager. When she came out, he asked her to open the safe, brandishing what appeared to be a gun but which was later discovered to be a fake. While the hold-up was in progress, police received a 911 call and they heard someone saying: "It doesn't have to go down like this." There were two customers and two clerks in the store at the time. No one was injured.

Gainer fled the store with $1,700 and witnesses provided a description of his vehicle. It was spotted on Grace Street, where Gainer abandoned it and fled on foot. When an officer and detective ordered him to stop, he responded, "I have a gun," and fled again. Lussier said the officers showed restraint because they had no way of knowing the gun was fake.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny and carrying a facsimile firearm. Gainer was held on $150,000 bond and is set to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Monday.
