Kevin Conroy, the owner of Rowayton Seafood Fish Market in Norwalk made the announcement on Facebook on Sunday, March 15, saying their attempt at social distancing just didn't work and he was concerned for the safety of his customers and employees alike.

A bartender at the restaurant may have been exposed on Friday, March 6, to the virus by a man in his 40s who was the town's first confirmed case of COVID-19.

The bartender is reportedly at home and is showing no signs of the virus.

Conroy said he closing the restaurant as a proactive measure to make sure his customers and employees are not put in any danger.

The fish market will remain open for take-out orders.

During the closure, Conroy said the restaurant will be sanitized from top to bottom following CDC guidelines.

"We can beat this virus," Conroy said. But the only way to do it is for everyone to act responsibly and that's what he is doing by closing the restaurant.

"We will reopen when it is safe to do so for our employees and customers," he said.
