Theres three more days of winter break left, and by now the kids must be dying to get out of the house. But what to do over the holiday weekend, when many places will be closed? Heres a few suggestions for activities in and around Fairfield:
? If youre not sick of winters chill already, how about taking the kids ice skating? The Fairfield Ice Academy (85 Mill Plain Road) has public skating Friday (4 to 6 p.m.), and Saturday and Sunday (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m.). And the Wonderland of Ice (123 Glenwood Ave., Bridgeport) has open ice all weekend: Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and 7 to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m.
? If your kids prefer time on the turf instead of the ice, Sportsplexs Field House has a special youth quarterback clinic Friday. For $10 per child, Coach Remson will teach kids the finer points of the pass. The clinic is divided into three age groups: 7- to 9-year-olds from 1 to 2 p.m., 10- to 12-year-olds from 2 to 3 p.m. and 13- to 14-year-olds from 3 to 4 p.m.
? If youre looking for something more educational, try the Barnum Museum (820 Main St., Bridgeport). Its closed Saturday but will be open to give kids a taste of history Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m. And Friday at 11 a.m., the museum will have a special guest. The Amazing Andy, a magician and juggler, will stop by to give kids a show.
? Closures: The Fairfield Public Library will be closed Friday, Dec. 31, and Saturday, Jan. 1. The Pequot Library in Southport will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Fairfield Museum and History Center will be closed Saturday.
