A new clothing store for kids has alighted in Fairfield, creating a new place for parents to shop. Krik-It, owned by Melissa Thompson and Rosanna Coughlin, celebrated its grand opening last week with help from First Selectman Ken Flatto and local shoppers at its new 1139 Post Road location.
The store has clothes for boys and girls ranging from infant sizes to size 16.
Thompson and Coughlin opened their first Krik-It store in Wilton in 2007 after coming up with the idea for the boutique while on a trip to Block Island. The duo, who met through mutual friends in 2003, spent their time in Block Island discussing what type of store to open and decided to create a "brilliant children's shop full of unique clothing and accessories."
The store's success has led to expansion plans in Wilton at its 5 River Road store, as well as the shop in Fairfield, in the heart of the town's center in Patriot Plaza.
The owners say the store "reflects our diverse approach to children's fashion." Krik-It is filled with clothing and accessories for a variety of tastes. And the store itself is bright and colorful and inviting to both kids and parents. It has a play area with puzzles, a TV and piano and will have unique sales to bring in customers and host events.
"We want to see the faces of customers light up when they walk through our doors and experience the joy we feel every day. We hope to share our passion for sophisticated, yet comfortable children's clothing with you," Melissa said.
Krik-It features clothing from companies committed to environmentally responsible design and manufacturing, a theme reflected in the store's name. In its organics department, Krik-It offers clothes made out of organic cotton from companies like Pura Vida.
