Fairfield Woman Finds Expertise in Image

Dianne Boras knows that it's important to make a good first impression. That's why she's made it her business to help women do just that. Earlier this year, she started Fairfield's Vada Image Consulting, helping moms who are "ready to look good again."

"I love making a difference in women's lives," Dianne says. "They're focused so much on their kids for the past 10 years, and now it's time to focus on them again."

Dianne left her work at General Electric 12 years ago to raise her family in Stratford. With her kids in their teens, she decided, like her ideal clients, to get back out in the world again. Inspired by a friend who runs a similar company for men, she decided that image consulting was a perfect business for her.

The main focus of her work is helping older women who, like her, have watched their kids become more independent and are ready to break out on their own again. Dianne first decides on a clothing style that best matches her client's personality. She then digs through her closet to find pieces that match that style or heads out with them for a personal shopping trip.

She also dispenses advice throughout the process, so the women she works with will be able to shop alone. Her biggest piece of advice? Make sure everything fits, both in style and size.

"Many women buy clothing that's too tight for them, and it actually makes them look heavier," Dianne says. "The only person that sees your size is you. So I always encourage women to make sure that they buy items that fit them now."

But Dianne does more than just dispense fashion advice. She's expanded her company to reach out to college and high school students, hosting seminars on area campuses to prep soon-to-be job seekers on what to wear to interviews, along with tips on body language and composure.

"The first impression is so important, and the first impression is usually appearance," Dianne says. "So it's very important in the interview process—for anyone."
