Tickets are on sale now for “We Built The Warehouse Party,” an event drummer Chris Frantz said will be both fun and funky.
“It’s a very nice show, a full set,” said Frantz, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer formerly with Talking Heads. “I think it will be groovy.”
Frantz and his wife, bassist Tina Weymouth, also a founding member of Talking Heads, front Tom Tom Club, which found international success with “Genius of Love” and “Wordy Rappinghood.”
Tom Tom Club has played at FTC’s Stage One several times, and the band is happy to be headlining the Warehouse celebration.
“It’s such a boon for our little town,” he said of the 8,000-square-foot venue next to the downtown train station. “I like the fact that there’s a lot of headroom. You don’t feel claustrophobic.”
Frantz and Weymouth have lived in Fairfield for about 30 years, raising their two sons and enjoying walks with their beagles, Poppy and Kiki.
Frantz said he remembers a time when Fairfield was dead at night, but venues such as The Warehouse, which opened in September, and a slew of restaurants have changed that.
“Now it’s almost bustling,” he said.
In addition to Frantz and Weymouth, Tom Tom Club’s current lineup features vocalist Victoria Palagy, keybordist/percussionist Bruce Martin, guitarist Pablo Martin, and Kid Ginseng on turntables and samples.
A special guest or two might show up for the encore, Frantz said.
But it won’t be Talking Heads vocalist David Byrne. Frantz said Talking Heads aficionados shouldn’t count on a reunion of the groundbreaking band anytime soon.
“I wish there was a chance,” he said. “We keep hoping that one day David will wake up and see it’s a good thing for our fans. But we’re not holding our breath.”
Tom Tom Club is here to stay, though. Frantz said he and Weymouth have a great working relationship that goes back to the founding of Talking Heads in the mid-1970s.
“I don’t know any other way,” he said of living and working with his wife. “We work well together. We’re fortunate that way.
“There’s no secret to it. I think it helps if you’re kind to the other person.”
Tickets to We Built The Warehouse are $95, $85 for FTC members. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.
