Award-Winning Youth Pianist To Perform At Fairfield University

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Chelsea Wang, a 20-year-old pianist who placed second the 2012 New York International Piano Competition, will perform at Fairfield University's Quick Center on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The performance is part of Fairfield University's "Young Artists Series," free classical piano concerts featuring gifted young musicians.

Wang will perform Wolfgang A. Mozart, "Rondo in A Minor, K. 511"; Sergei Prokofiev, "Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 82"; Ludwig van Beethoven, "Sonata in E flat Major, Op. 27, No. 1"; Frédéric Chopin. "Rondo in E flat Major, Op. 16;" and Nikolai Kapustin, "Variations, Op. 41."

Wang has garnered many national and international awards including third prize at the 2012 Music Teachers National Association Senior Piano Competition, Best Interpretation of a Bach Work at the 2010 Eastman International Piano Competition and Best Interpretation of a Work by Franz Liszt at the 2009 Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition.

Wang currently studies with Meng-Chieh Liu and Ignat Solzhenitsyn at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts is on the campus of Fairfield University at 1073 North Benson Road in Fairfield. Entrance to the Quick Center is through the Barlow Road gate at 200 Barlow Road.
