Fairfield Resident Kills Self While Police On Scene A resident died by suicide while police were on the scene for a welfare check in Fairfield County. The incident occurred in the town of Fairfield around 3 p.m., Monday, March 4 on Longdean Road. According to Sgt. Michael Stahl of the Fairfield Police, the resident's employer called the police asking for a welfare check when the employee did not show up for work or answer the phone. When officers arrived at the home they found a note indicating that the person could be found in the garage, Stahl said. Man Attempting To Jump From Area Overpass Bridge Saved By Police, Good Samaritans With the help of several alert citizens, police in Fairfield County prevented a despondent man from his suicide attempt of jumping from an overpass onto the highway below.  The incident took place early Sunday, Jan. 23, about 1:30 a.m. in Trumbull.
