For the third straight day, a round of severe thunderstorms will move through the area during the evening commute. The storms will include downpours, lightning and gusty winds. The unsettled weather pattern that spawned tornadoes throughout the Midwest has triggered the stretch of storms in this region. The same storm system that has delivered devastating tornadoes to the Midwest will bring a new round of severe thunderstorms to the region for the second straight day. A possible tornado touched down in Sussex County, New Jersey, on Tuesday night, May 28. A complex storm system originating in the western United States has the potential to bring snow, ice, heavy rain and potentially severe thunderstorms to the region after traveling across the country. The storm is slowly heading east and with its current track would arrive on the East Coast sometime on Sunday. Tornado Watch In Effect As Severe Storms Sweep Through Area
A Tornado Watch is in effect for Fairfield County as severe storms sweep through the area from west to east. The watch went into effect at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday and lasts until midnight. The watch comes after a Tornado Warning expired at 4:45 p.m. in Northern Westchester after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado crossed over the Hudson River from Pomona in Rockland County to Peekskill. Let's start with the good news. After rounds of storms that soaked parts of the area with several inches of rain on Tuesday, Wednesday will be dry for most of the day. But in the mid-afternoon that is likely to change in a big way after a cold front pushes into a warm air mass, ushering in showers and isolated severe thunderstorms with gusty winds and flooding downpours. There is a threat for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday evening ahead of the arrival of a cold front. The cold front will come after showers overspread the area Wednesday morning. Are you ready for Round Two? For the second straight evening, there is a chance for severe thunderstorms on Friday night. Storm Knocks Out Power, Brings Down Trees In Fairfield County
Some Fairfield County residents remain without power following a series of severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area Thursday night. Nearly 1,000 residents lost power after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued in the area by the National Weather Service just before 7 p.m., with the wind and rain most impacting the coastal towns in the county, especially Stamford, Greenwich and Darien.
