Boaters on a sinking sailboat in the Long Island Sound were rescued by police in Fairfield County who made an emergency save. Darien Police Marine Division officers on patrol on the Long Island Sound received a distress call from a boat that was taking on water in the area of Copps Island shortly after 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Three stranded boaters and a kayaker were rescued in two separate Long Island Sound incidents off the coast of Fairfield County. City of Stamford firefighters, manning the Fireboat 236, rescued the kayaker in distress at around 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 6 after a telephone report prompted the response of the city's emergency services, the Stamford Fire Department said. A fisherman was the latest person to be rescued from the rocks at a park which is a popular fishing and swimming area, prompting officials to issue a warning. The incident took place in Fairfield County at Seaside Park around 5:33 p.m. Sunday, June 28, when Bridgeport Police received word the man had been stranded after the tide came in. Firefighters never know who or what they might have to rescue. Sometimes it's cats stuck up a tree or in a drainpipe, or sometimes it's a 4-year-old adventurous boy. In a dramatic rescue, a man was saved by three Good Samatarians after falling through the ice of a Fairfield County lake while attempting to save his dog. Four men clinging to a partially submerged boat in the Long Island Sound that was spotted by a nearby oyster boat were rescued by a police marine unit in Westport. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, June 18, the Westport Marine Unit responded to a call of four people in the water near Peck’s Ledge Lighthouse.
