Dog Rescued From Sewer In Westchester: 'Sweet Boy' Now Up for Adoption A dog who somehow became lost in the sewers of Westchester is now up for adoption after he was rescued by police officers.  The dog, named Leonardo, was rescued from a sewer pipe in New Rochelle late at night after officers from the city's police department noticed that he was underground, the Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle said in a social media post on Saturday, April 8.  After finding Leonardo, officers managed to coax him out by sharing their dinner with him. Covid-19: School District In Region Switches To Remote Learning A large school district in the region will start the calendar year remotely due to an increase COVID-19 cases amid the emergence of the Omicron strain. The Mount Vernon City School District said it plans to reopen for in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 18. The district had switched to 100-percent virtual instruction on Wednesday, Dec. 22. Two other city districts in Westchester County -- New Rochelle and Yonkers Public School District have both also announced they will be closed this week for in-person learning.
