Chemical Spill At SHU In Fairfield Causes Large Hazmat Response A chemical spill at a Sacred Heart University science lab in Connecticut caused an evacuation and a hazmat response. The incident occurred in Fairfield around 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the university. Fairfield Fire Department units quickly responded and found the building had been evacuated and secured by the SHU Department of Public Safety. As a precaution, due to the unknown chemicals spilled and possible reaction, the Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team was called to the scene to make entry to determine what chemicals had spilled, and check for any chemical reaction…

Suspicious Package Leads To Emergency Response In Westport A call regarding a suspicious package emitting a foul odor sent Westport police officers and firefighters to a Riverside Avenue address to investigate the situation. The call came in around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, for the package that had been delivered to the address on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, said Westport Police Lt. Jill Cabana. The building was temporarily evacuated while officials examined the package.
