Synchro Skaters Hold Rally

The seven synchronized skating teams of the Skyliners — 135 figure skaters strong — will hold a pep rally to kick off their seasons at 4:30 Saturday at Terry Conners Rink, 1125 Cove Road, Stamford.

Admission is free to see the new programs for the Beginner, Pre-Juvenile, Preliminary, Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice and Junior teams.

The Skyliners Junior Team has again been selected to U.S. Figure Skating's international program for synchronized skating for the 2010-11 season, earning the privilege of being members of "Team USA."

In 2010, the junior team earned a silver medal at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships and its first trip to the Synchronized Skating Junior World Challenge Cup, where the team placed fifth.

Skaters from throughout the tristate metro area on the six teams represent the Springdale Figure Skating Club in Stamford, the Windy Hill Figure Skating Club in Greenwich and the Skating Club of New York in New York City, among others.

The teams' mission is to prepare skaters to compete at the highest level of synchronized skating locally, regionally, nationally and internationally by offering training both on and off the ice to develop athletes from the beginner through elite levels.
