Stamford, New Canaan Runners Win Hope in Motion 5K

Stamford's Anatolie Vartosu and New Canaan's Hope Krause led the men's and women's fields, respectively, in the Hope in Motion 5K race Sunday in Stamford. The 5K saw 694 finishers. The event, which also included a bike ride and walk, raised money for Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center.

Vartosu, 40, won the men's race in 16:12. He held off former Westhill star James Grebey, who ran 16:15. Westhill High student Sam Lagasse finished third in 16:55.

Krause led the women's field in 17:22. Caitlin Stote of Stamford took second in 18:46, followed by Darien's Liz Herbert in 18:51.

Among the age group winners from Main Street Connect communities were: Men's, 1-18, Lagasse; 20-29, Grebey; Aaron Heath, White Plains, N.Y., 30-39; Vartosu, 40-49; Alain Benzaken, Stamford, 50-59; and Christian Darland, Stamford, 60-and-over. Women's age group winners from MSC communities include Greenwich's Meghan Hayden, 1-18; Krause; Herbert; and Louise Resor of Greenwich, age 60-and-over.
