Shippan Youth Tennis Dominates Weekend

The Shippan Racquet Club's youth tennis teams thwarted their opponents in weekend action across Fairfield County. The 18-and-Under Shippan Twisters took on the Trumbull Racquet Wolves, winning 68-28, taking eight out of the nine courts played.

Philip Goresson of Darien won his No. 1 singles match, 4-0, 4-1, and paired with Charlie Khachian for a 4-0, 4-1 win in their No. 1 doubles spot. Sarah Alptekin of Darien played the last singles match of the night, defeating her opponent, 4-2, 4-2, to clinch the match for the team.

The Shippan Twisters hold the third spot in the youth tennis playoffs with a few games remaining. If the team continues to bring home wins, it will head to the championships.

The 14-and-Under (Advanced) Shippan Stormers defeated Stamford Indoor Tennis, 52-42. With a 10-point lead, the Stormers captured the win during the home game.

Pia Teschner of Darien easily took her match in two sets, 4-0, 4-0, showing a mature comfort on the court. Lindsey Evans of Fairfield also came out on top but not quite as easily. Lindsey played out a third set tiebreaker, finally topping her opponent.

In doubles action, Anna Daccache of Riverside paired with Arthur Caassidy of Darien, defeating their opponent, 4-0, 4-0.
