Referee Hurt at Greenwich-Darien Hockey Game

Play was stopped for nearly 20 minutes during Tuesday's boys ice hockey game between Greenwich and Darien high schools when referee Jim Moran was accidentally struck above the left eye with a high stick, drawing blood. Moran was treated by EMT's at the scene and taken to Greenwich Hospital on a stretcher. The game continued with the lone remaining referee, Doug Panero, patrolling the ice.

"It was pretty scary there for a moment," Panero said. "The teams made it really easy for me because they just wanted to play hockey. I want to compliment both teams really deeply for how they handled it. I'm so proud of both of them."

Greenwich went on to win the game 2-0 at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink.
