Mid Fairfield Blues Hockey Team Wins Tournament

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The Mid Fairfield Youth Hockey Association’s Mite Majors team won the Silver Stick tournament last weekend in West Chester, Pa., by going 6-0. The victory qualifies the team for the Silver Stick national tournament in January.

Mid Fairfield won the championship, 6-5, over the New Jersey Colonials in dramatic fashion. After scoring the game-tying goal with four-tenths of a second left in regulation, the Blues won the championship with a shorthanded goal.

Mid Fairfield outscored opponents 43-18 in its title run. The Blues also defeated the Long Island Gulls, 8-2; the Westchester Express, 5-4; the Valley Forge, Pa., Minutemen; the Middlesex Islanders, 9-3; and the Westchester Express, 6-3.

Mid Fairfield is 22-5-1 on the season, with three of those losses by one goal.

The team includes Stamford’s Paul Davey and Mikael Petersen; Westport’s Graham Day, William Paliotta and Owen Sherman; Darien’s Mick Frechette, Will Lodge, Charles Seter and Theodore Truwit; Rye’s Tommy Haggerty, Malachy Beyer and Liam Lavelle;  Weston’s Daniel McKiernan; Fairfield’s Ryan Panico; Greenwich’s Charles Smilovic; and Gregory and Zachary Peltz of Mt. Kisco, N.Y. The team is coached by Ryan Haggerty, assisted by Tim Frechette and Sean McKiernan.
