North Stamford and Springdale will try to extend their winning streaks in the District 1 Little League tournament Thursday in the semifinals. North Stamford plays Darien National at Caporizzo Field in Stamford, and Springdale plays National Lione at Frank Noto Field in Stamford. Both games begin at 5:45 p.m.
North Stamford rolled through pool A with a 6-0 record, outscoring opponents 64-14. The team brings a well-rested pitching staff into the elimination round. It has not played since beating Ridgefield American, 8-0, on Sunday. North Stamford pitched two shutouts and allowed two runs or fewer in five of its six games. Darien National earned the No. 2 seed in pool B with a 5-1 record. Its only loss came to Springdale on Tuesday, 13-12.
Springdale finished 6-0 in pool B and outscored opponents 62-31. National Lione went 4-2 in pool A, with losses to North Stamford and Norwalk. Lione earned a berth in the tournament with a convincing 9-1 win over Wilton Tuesday night.
Thursday's semifinal winners meet Saturday in the District 1 championship game. The winner advances to sectional competition.
The 10-11-year-old baseball semifinals will also be played Thursday night. North Stamford plays National Lione at 5:45 p.m. at Coleman-Mix Field in Darien. Darien American plays Darien National at 5:45 p.m. at McGuane Field in Darien. The winners advance to Saturday's championship game. Log on to the District 1 website for further information.
