Hockey Players Assist Worthy Cause

Several professional hockey players will be skating, shooting and checking Wednesday night at Terry Conners Ice Rink in Stamford for The Big Assist II. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation. Obie was the first hockey coach for Ryan Shannon and Jaime Sifers, professional hockey players who will be skating in the event. It begins at 7 p.m.

The foundation makes financial assistance grants to individuals living with spinal cord injuries. There will also be a silent auction of sports items and the player's game-worn jerseys will be autographed and auctioned or sold.

Professional hockey players Sifers, Shannon and Hugh Jessiman are among the Darien Youth Hockey Association alumni scheduled to skate in the game. Other NHL players invited to attend include New Canaan native Max Pacioretty, who played in 52 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season. Alex Kovalev, Jason Arnott and James Van Riemsdyk are among the other NHL players who have been invited. Several college hockey players are also expected to play.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. A family pack for $75 includes two adult and three children’s tickets. Find out more on the DYHA website.
