Former Darien Coach to Visit Football Dinner

DARIEN, Conn. -- Former Darien High School football head coach Mike Sangster will be one of the featured guests at the first annual Darien High School alumni dinner scheduled for later this month.

Sangster, who coached the Blue Wave to three state championships and three league championships, compiled a record of 105-30-2 in 12 seasons as head coach. He retired in 1999.

Current head coach Rob Trifone will be host for the event at at 7 p.m.June 23 at the Piedmont Club. 

"An event like this is a long time coming," Trifone said. "Darien football has a long, storied tradition and we're using this event to help reunite that community. We will also be using the event to help raise money for concussion-resistant helmets for the current team, as well as new shoulder pads."

Invitations have been sent to several hundred local football alumni. If you would like to be included, send an email to darienbwfootball@gmail.com. Send checks, payable to Darien High School, to Pete Graham, 5 Chester Road, Darien, CT 06820. Contributions from those who cannot attend also are welcome.

Tickets are $95 and will include dinner and open bar. Alumni under 21 are being asked to donate $45 for the evening.

Those who attend will receive a directory of alumni so they can stay in touch with their former teammates. In addition to Trifone, several current players will be in attendance to give an overview of the coming season.
