Darien Players Help AAU Team Win State Basketball Title

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The United Sons and Daughters eighth-grade boys AAU basketball team, which includes players from several Fairfield County communities, won the Connecticut state championship Sunday in New Britain.

USAD defeated Teach and Mentor, 78-58, in the championship game. The team also posted a 66-59 win over Connecticut Select in the winners’ bracket finals of the double-elimination tournament.

Players on the team are Darien’s Alex Preston, Carter Scott and Zak Swetye; Westport’s Justin Seideman, Mack Muller and Ben Casparius; Weston’s Christ Swanson and Nik Parker; Danbury’s Marcus Fox; Wilton’s Jack Williams; New Canaan’s Tyler Sweeney; Newtown’s Bobby Haskins; and Jordan Means of White Plains, N.Y.

Earlier in the month, USAD also won the Metro Super Regional tournament in New Haven. Both championships were qualifiers for the AAU National Championships in July in Orlando, Fla.
