Darien Youth Hockey Association Action

DARIEN, Conn -- DARIEN, Conn. ? The following are recaps of recent Darien Youth Hockey Association games.

PeeWee   

Atlantic Trust Private Wealth Management (Darien PeeWee A) 3, Greater New Haven 1: Both teams came out and skated strong and hard. Darien’s Tommy Fox lit the lamp for the home team unassisted.  Danny Frattaroli, Will Dickson and Peyton Knauf were relentless with the puck and kept it deep in the opposition’s zone for most of the game.  Jeremy Toscano, along with Nick Saah, Reid Budd and Austin Propper shutdown the opposition’s offense and cleared the zone throughout the game.  Will Johnston scored on a pass from Brett Raker.  Connor McCarthy and Aditya Krishnamachar continued shutting down any New Haven offensive momentum. CJ Hathaway netted an insurance goal, that was assisted by Will Culliton.  Anthony Cusano shut down all shots on net, and Bobby Leonard stifled an onslaught of attempts to close out the game in Darien’s victory. 

Wonderland Wizards 7, Rings End Lumber (Darien PeeWee B) 4: Darien led 1-0 after one period, on a Boomer Manchuck goal, assisted by Tighe Ekern and Ronan Flynn.  After the Wizards scored, Quentin Danielson put Darien up 2-1 with 7:00 left in the second period with a shot from the top of the left circle, assisted by Bobby Gummer.  After three Wizard goals, Nick Cardone put in a blast from the left circle, after skating the puck from his own blue line.  Ekern scored with 3:20 left in the game, assisted by Cardone, to close it to 5-4, but the Wizards scored again and then put in an empty netter to squelch the Darien rally.  Will Capalbo had 15 saves for Darien.  

Rings End Lumber (Darien PeeWee B) 3 Putnam County 1: Darien PeeWee B, sponsored by Rings End Lumber, jumped out to the lead three minutes into the game. Quentin Danielson scored on a perfect pass from Reese Gregory, also assisted by Ronan Flynn.  With 10:30 left in the first, Flynn scored, assisted by Nick Kleban.  Nick Cardone closed out the Darien scoring in the second period, assisted by Tighe Ekern and Harrison Kadish.  Darien outshot Putnam 49-21, and Darien goalie Will Capalbo made several terrific saves to preserve the shutout, until a breakaway goal with 40 seconds left in the game. The defense of Bobby Gummer, Kadish, Cole Kammler, Tommy Mullin, Brendan Verrico and Alexander Williams played well and did not yield a shot in the first six minutes of the game.

House Mites

Stop & Shop 7, Halstead Property 7: It was an equal matchup with both teams skating hard end to end.  Stop & Shop stars included Anders Mueller who played flawlessly between the pipes, Ashton Healey who netted a few goals.  The Game puck went to Dawson Brown, who played solid offense and defense.      

Halstead Property's Andrew Jaroch gave a great effort and skated better than ever.  Daniel MacLehose played stellar defense and the goalie Jack Gifford made some amazing saves in the net.

Darien Dental Care 12, Team Eleven 2: The early start to the game did not slow either of the teams down. For Darien Dental Care Kids, Jack McCloy was a wall in goal, stopping many close range shots. Nolan Bryson cleared away the rebounds. He also fed one of the new players, Grant Dougherty for his two goals. Ryan Roberts kept up the fast pace on right wing as well. DDK scoring was led by Thomas Cush with four goals. Colin Bresnahan continued strong offensive play netting two goals. Remy Cush played a strong defense, alongside of Maverick McCloy, who was called up to the squad earlier in the week. For Team 11, the defense was led by Frank Bonaddio, who won the game puck for his efforts. Another recent call up was Carter Hall, who is an excellent addition to the team. In goal, Brian Seely made some outstanding saves, stopping two break-aways at the end of the game.

Team Stop & Shop 6, Blue Wave Orthodontics 6: Sunday's game between Team Stop & Shop and Blue Wave Orthodontics was a real nail-biter. The teams skated to a 6-6 tie, with end-to-end action the entire 40 minutes.  Team Stop & Shop had many contributors to the scoring and defense.  Miles Vitucci was a stone wall in the net for team Stop & Shop. Eoin Mueller scored two goals and completed many outstanding passes.  Theo Eveans and Matthew Wronski also had stellar performances. 

Blue Wave Orthodontics had some incredible offensive attacks led by Vaughn Slatoff, who netted a few goals.  Aidan Stant and Christian Maro also played solid offense and defense throughout the game.
