Darien Teenager Takes 5th at Pequot Race

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien High School senior Michael Johnston, who was part of the Blue Wave’s history-making cross country team, finished fifth Thursday in the Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5-mile road race in Fairfield.

Johnston finished in 17:09. Cameron Marantz, of Philadelphia, won the race in 25:05, followed by Staples High School junior Henry Wynne and Westport’s Luke McCambley. Easton’s Meredith Anand won the women’s race.

Other Darien runners who finished in the top five in their age groups included Peter Watson, who won the 20-29 age division; Liz Herbert, who won the women’s 40-49 age group; and Laurie McGrath, who won the women’s 60-69 age group.

There were 4,223 finishers in the race, which was run under near ideal conditions beginning at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport. Complete results are available online.
