DARIEN, Conn. Sixth grade boys basketball teams from Darien and Fairfield squared off at Darien High School Thursday night in a summer league game in the Fairfield County Basketball League.
Fairfield built an early lead before Darien challenged late in the second half only to fall short, 44-39.
The games are more casual than the winter league, which is for teams in fourth through eighth grades. There is also a summer league for high school students that plays at Stamford High School.
This is the first summer for middle school summer basketball, and teams from Norwalk, New Canaan, Westport, Wilton, Stamford and Weston also have teams in the league.
