The Darien fourth-grade Wave battled Wilton to a 6-6 tie in the Fairfield County Football League season opener for both teams. Darien had the ball on the Wilton 2-yard line as time expired.
Jack Bogdan, Blake Cellar and Jake Maley ran effectively behind the Wave's offensive line, which battled all day against a bigger Wilton squad. Bogdan scored Darien's touchdown on a long sweep play. Tyler Cramer drew a key pass-interference penalty as he went to catch a pass from Maley to help spark Darien's offense.
Brian Cicero and Griffen Martens played well at defensive end to help contain Wilton's running attack. Mac McLaughlin delivered one of the biggest hits of the day for Darien.
