FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Darien/New Canaan American Legion Baseball program is having open tryouts Darien and New Canaan residents only for 2012 Junior Legion and Senior Legion teams. Tryouts will be at IST Baseball Headquarters, 25 Van Zant St., Norwalk. The Junior Legion tryouts will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, from 5-7 p.m. Junior Legion is a 17-year-old and under program for players born on or after Jan. 1, 1995. The Senior Legion tryouts will be Saturday, Jan. 28, from 7-9 p.m. Senior Legion is a 19-and-under league for players born on or after Jan. 1, 1993. Players must register via email at istkatz22@yahoo.com to reserve a spot at the tryout. The tryout fee is $20 per player. Cash or a check payable to IST will be accepted. Darien/New Canaan American Legion Baseball is a wood bat program consisting of a 27-game schedule played in June and July followed by Regional/State tournaments for teams that qualify. The American Legion league includes Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Greenwich and Trumbull. The Senior Legion team has historically been comprised of varsity high school juniors and seniors and first-year college players.
