Library Offers New Teen 'Study Sesh"

If your teenager needs a quiet place to study, with some socializing on the side, consider the Darien Library. Teen librarian Erica Leone thinks the library's new "Study Sesh" will fill that need.

"It started off because the teens in the [library's] teen lounge, they know that's their place to go, but they can't really study there because it gets really loud," she said. "There's video games going on and Skype and all that. They said they want to stay in the library, but they don't have any place to study."

"Study Sesh" will be held every Thursday from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Mezzanine Conference Room.

"We have a really nice conference room upstairs and they always want to go in there," Leone said. "So we decided we'll block off a set-up time every week and you can just have it to study in there." The library will provide pencils, paper and calculators, among other necessary items, and some homework help. Snacks will also be provided.

Leone expects 10-15 students might use the program initially, but that as the school year moves along the number will increase. "Right about now, since school just got back, they might be drifting in. But when it comes time for finals, they're packed in there," she said. It's not new, but Leone thinks students will use it. "It wasn't my idea, but it is a good one."
