The Ox Ridge Elementary School family picnic will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rain date of Sept. 28. Ox Ridge PTO Social Chairs Debi McGahren and Marla Chandler will dish up a gourmet dinner from Fairway Market in Stamford, featuring fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, watermelon, sliders, salads and more.

"We've been going to this picnic for more than five years and my kids never tire of it," said Chandler. "It's really a Norman Rockwell-esque event in this town. Good old-fashioned fun with the family. Plain and simple."

Kids will be able to enjoy a day of three-legged races, water balloon tosses, potato sack hopping and other activities. The highlight of the event will be a class versus class Tug of War, with a parents versus parents finale. Almost everyone will go home with a ribbon.

Fundraising Chairs Briget DeRiso and Elena Whidden will be on hand selling $20 raffle tickets to win the VIP parking spot at Ox Ridge for the entire year. The spot is closest to the school's front door, and will allow parents to forget about waiting in the pick up line all year.

In addition to the raffle, there will be a bake sale with homemade desserts from Ox Ridge families, which will raise money for the PTO. Students will also be setting up a farm stand to sell homegrown vegetables from the Ox Ridge garden.

The event is made possible through the work of more than a dozen volunteers who help organize and set up the picnic. The more than 500 members of the Ox Ridge community who attend will be able to catch up with friends old and new and kick off a fun-filled school year at Ox Ridge.
