DARIEN, Conn. The students of Ox Ridge Elementary School honored Principal John Rechi, who is retiring at the end of this year. The students held John Rechi Day and wore t-shirts that read, Worlds Greatest Principal with a picture of Rechi.
In addition, Darien's First Selectman declared June 11 to be John Rechi Day in Darien. The students at school held Rechi Races in the form of field games such as sack races, balloon toss and tug of war. Each class paid tribute to Rechi with stories and songs.
More than 400 people attended an event in honor of Rechi at the Darien Nature Center. Parents, teachers, staff and administrators gathered for speeches and memories of Rechis 26 years as principal of Ox Ridge.
