Darien Kids Release Trout Into the Wild

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien students raised trout and released them into the Silvermine River in Norwalk as part of Middlesex Middle School’s Trout in the Classroom Club.

The students worked with Middlesex teacher Will Heher and Dick O’Neil of the Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited’s Trout in the Classroom program. They received 200 brown trout eggs last November, of which a total of 130 of the 3-inch fish survived.

The fish were raised in a 50-gallon container in Heher’s classroom. Kids were responsible for coming in early and feeding the fish, cleaning the water and taking measurements of the growth of the fish.
