The final numbers were not in Tuesday night, but with all of Darien and 21 of Stamford's 22 districts reporting, Leone had 16,535 votes, compared to Michelson's 10,576 votes.

Democrat Leone was seeking his second term as a state senator. He was elected to the position in February 2011 in a special election. Before that he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives for eight years, including as House majority whip for his last term. He also served on the Stamford Zoning Board of Appeals and the Stamford Citizen Patrol Program.

Republican challenger Michelson ran on a platform of improving Connecticut’s economy and cutting government spending. He has served on the Stamford Zoning Board for two years and is a former builder and developer. He has also been active on the Republican Town Committee for several years.
