An Overbrook Lane resident reported to police shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10 that there had just been an intruder in her home who stole various items and items from under a Christmas tree.
Police said that the homeowner stated that she was in her second-floor bedroom when she heard a noise. Thinking that it might be an unexpected visit from a family member, the resident said she called out, at which point an unknown woman darted from a second-floor bedroom and ran down the stairs to exit the residence. No other description was given of the suspect.
Police said that a check of the residence found that the suspect had rifled through several areas on the first floor, taking an iPad, and purse. A kitchen stand mixer, still in its box was also taken from underneath the Christmas tree. Two vehicles parked in the driveway were also rummaged through.
According to police, a canine officer from the Westport Police Department was called in in an attempt to track down the suspect, though she got away. The resident stated that the door to his home, and to both vehicles were unlocked overnight. Police said the incident remains under investigation.
