Television personality Steve Wilkos was taken to the hospital after being involved in a car accident in Darien this week, according to police.
Darien Police said that at around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, an officer on patrol discovered a one-car accident on West Avenue in the area of Turnabout Lane. The officer saw a car lying on its passenger side at the edge of the eastbound lane, which appeared to have sustained heavy damage, police said.
It is believed that the car struck several roadside objects on West Avenue before coming to arrest, police said.
The lone occupant of the car was identified as Wilkos, who is a resident of Darien.
Due to Wilkos's injuries and the severity of the accident, he was taken to Stamford Hospital for further evaluation and treatment, police said.
Police said that the cause and nature of the accident is under investigation, and no other information will be released at this time.
Wilkos has hosted "The Steve Wilkos Show" since 2007, and previously served as director of security on "The Jerry Springer Show." He also filled in for Springer on several occasions before being given his own talk show
