A 16-year-old resident reported Thursday, July 19, that she had found several trees spray-painted with swastikas along a trail at the Olsen Woods Bird Sanctuary.
She showed officers five trees that had been tagged with swastikas in red spray paint, as well as one tree that had a penis painted in the same paint, police said.
The sanctuary is owned and maintained by the Darien Land Trust. It was notified of the incident, according to police.
The teen told police that the trees had not yet been vandalized when she had seen them the day before. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
