Darien Police say they observed a dark-colored sedan stationary on Hecker Avenue at the intersection of Post Road on Saturday, May 4 around 12:30 a.m.
Police say the vehicle’s signal was on flash and that it was not moving despite the lack of traffic.
The vehicle started to move without using headlights as the officer approached it, eventually turning West onto Post Road without signaling, police say.
Police also say the vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lanes multiple times, prompting a traffic stop.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 45-year-old Julian Carrasco-Hernandez of Stamford, appeared to have red, glossy eyes and an alcoholic odor, police say.
When asked for informational documents, police say Hernandez had a “difficult time” finding and producing them. He appeared confused and admitted to drinking alcohol, according to police.
At this point, Hernandez was asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.
Hernandez was arrested, transported, processed and charged with the following:
- Operating under the influence
- Failure to display lights
- Restricted turn
- Failure to drive right
Hernandez was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Court Tuesday, May 14.
