Darien Police responded to 30 Sedgwick Avenue on the report of a stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. on Thursday, January 10. The victim stated that his daughter woke him up after hearing a noise outside. When he looked outside, he saw his 2002 Acura MDX being backed out of the driveway.
Police later determined that the noise heard was the sound of the Acura striking the other car in the driveway as it was backing up. The complaint also told police that the keys had been left in the stolen vehicle.
Upon further investigation, police developed a suspect, identified as 40-year-old Casey Gagnon of the Bronx, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Gagnon was arrested at his home on Tuesday, March 12 and transported to Darien Police Department. During questioning, police say Gagnon admitted to acting alone in the theft. Gagnon was charged with first-degree larceny and other charges based on an alleged home intrusion on Overbrook Lane.
Gagnon was unable to post his $200,000 bond and remains in police custody. He is scheduled to be transported to Stamford Court on Wednesday, March 13. Investigations are still ongoing.
