DARIEN, Conn. — A 32-year-old Stamford man who was stopped after his car swerved over the double-yellow line on Hoyt Street in Darien was arrested on a drug charge, police said.

Officers stopped Giovani Gilmar Medina-Flores at 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at Hoyt Street and Lynn Court in his 2005 Toyota 4Runner, police said.

The officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the 4Runner, police said. When asked, Medina-Flores admitted to having "a couple of drinks,” police said.

Medina-Flores’ eyes were glassy and bloodshot, police said.

He submitted to roadside standardized sobriety field-testing, which he failed to perform to standard, and was arrested, police said.

While officers conducted the standard vehicle inventory before towing, a small baggie of suspected cocaine was found under the driver’s seat, police said. The suspected cocaine later tested positive for the active ingredients in cocaine, police said.

At headquarters, Medina-Flores submitted to breathalyzer testing, police said. The first test at 2:59 a.m., came back with a BAC of .1117, police said. The second test was taken at 3:18 a.m., with a BAC of .1113.

He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and possession of narcotics, police said.

At 6 a.m., Medina-Flores posted $369 bond and was released, police said. His driving privilege was suspended for 24 hours. He is due in Stamford court Aug. 25.
