Former Employees Connected To Burglaries At Embody Fitness In Darien

Stamford residents Samuel Marrero, 24, and Osvaldo Acuna, 20, allegedly committed burglaries on eight separate occasions in January and February

Acuna was connected to five of the burglaries and Marrero to three, Darien Police said.

When Darien Police responded to a Feb. 26 report of a burglary at Embody Fitness, located at 380 Heights Road, management informed responding officers that on the past two mornings, the cash count for the cash register had been off from the evening prior.

The initial occurrence had been thought to be employee error, but after the second occurrence, management reviewed security camera footage from the overnight hours and spotted an individual entering the store with a key and taking money out of the cash register at approximately 7:30 the evening prior.

Management stated that they had noticed discrepancies in the cash count since approximately January, but had always believed it to be an employee error.

Through investigative efforts in conjunction with the New Canaan Police Department, detectives from both agencies were able to develop two suspects in regards to burglaries at Embody Fitness stores in both jurisdictions.

In working with Embody Fitness management, it was determined that the proceeds from the burglaries totaled approximately $1,500 to $1,600

Marrero turned himself in on Tuesday, April 24 after being advised of the active warrant. He was held on a court set bond of $75,000 and transported to court the same day.

Marrero was also charged in connection with burglaries at Embody Fitness' New Canaan location on Forest Street, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

Acuna turned himself in on Friday, April 27 after being advised of the active warrant. He was held on a court set bond of $75,000 and transported to court the same day.
