Gregory Martin Clay, 37, Of Darien

DARIEN, Conn. - Gregory Martin Clay of Darien died Aug. 29. He was 37.

Clay was born Oct. 20, 1975, in New Rochelle, son of Cecilia Volpe and Richard Clay. The Clay family lived in Larchmont and he attended Mamaroneck schools until his mom married Tom Volpe and the family moved to Darien in 1986.

Clay was a 1993 Darien High School graduate. He attended Roger Williams College in Bristol, R.I., and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.

Clay started his career as a co-owner and operator of The East Coast Sports Bar & Grill in Fort Collins, Colo. In 2001, he returned to Connecticut and worked for The Continental Broker-Dealer Corporation in New York City as a financial investment trainee. After passing the Series 7 and Series 63 Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exams in 2002, he went to work for Bear-Stearns in New York City as an associate in the Private Client Services Group. In 2003, he took a position as a fixed income investment strategist and senior relationship manager with Bellehaven Investments in Greenwich. In 2006, Clay was appointed managing director for W. J. Mayer & Co. in Greenwich and employed by Wyland Galleries as an art sales consultant in Sarasota, Fla.

Clay is survived by his parents, Tom and Cecilia Volpe; brother, Christopher (Emily); nephews; maternal grandmother, Helyne Del Favero; uncle, Ronald Del Favero (Claire); cousins; step brothers, Tom and Bob Volpe; step sisters, Rosemarie Costello, Donna Bell and Dianne Forlenzo; and nieces and nephews from his extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Richard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
