Civita Wilcox, 77, Of Darien; Retired Schoolteacher

DARIEN, Conn. – Civita Canto Wilcox, 77, of Darien, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at her home.

She was a daughter of Lou and Mary Bruno Canto, and graduated as salutatorian from Darien High School in 1955.

Wilcox taught at several area schools, including Stamford High School, for 32 years. She was honored as Stamford High’s “Teacher of the Year” in 1984.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Frank; one daughter, Marjorie (Rob) Trifone; one son, Lee (Sarah) Wilcox; one sister, Marjorie Canto; and eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, John Franklin Wilcox; a sister, Joyce Canto Hill; and a brother, Louis Michael Canto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.

Arrangements were handled by Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, The Cooper Center, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172-1776.
