The California-based electric car company launched its 21st charger nationwide and second on I-95 in Connecticut. The other is across the highway at the northbound Darien rest stop.

"This Supercharger opening represents another step in the expansion of Tesla’s network and will enable long distance travel for Model S owners between Washington D.C., New York and Boston as well as popular tourist destinations along the Connecticut shoreline," the company said in a statement.

The charger brings the electric car battery to full capacity in 20 to 30 minutes, according to the statement.

Supercharger stations are strategically placed between Washington, D.C., and Boston to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.

The company also has chargers along the California coast.
