Michael Fedele was there last year. No word yet on whether the former lieutenant governor plans a return engagement, but that shouldnt stop you from attending this years Stamford Symphony Orchestra fund-raiser to help feed the hungry.
The Saturday, Jan. 29, event will take place at Stamford Center for the Arts/The Palace. It will benefit New Covenant House of Hospitality, the Stamford-based nonprofit that provides more than 500,000 meals annually to residents of Stamford, Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan.
The Catholic Charities-sponsored center has a soup kitchen, food pantry, breakfast-to-go program, and serves after-school meals that are essential to the poor, homeless and disadvantaged in this area, said event Chairman John Goetz. He added that New Covenant House is the only soup kitchen in the lower Fairfield County region serving such a broad area.
The symphony will perform lush, romantic works by Tchaikovsky, Schubert and Schoenberg. But that wont be the only attraction. During a pre-performance reception, cocktails and hors doeuvres -- served by local celebrities -- and raffle prizes donated by area businesses will kick off the event. Maestro Eckart Preu will conduct a Behind the Baton discussion. During intermission, coffee and dessert will be served.
We have invited area politicians and notable residents to serve as celebrity bartenders during the fundraiser, said Goetz. It will be a wonderful evening.
Perhaps youll run into Fedele as one of the celebrity servers. But youll have to go to find out.
The event, titled Making Music Together to Feed the Hungry in Our Community, will begin at 6 p.m. The concert of breathtaking music, as Goetz describes it, starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $200 per person.
