DARIEN, Conn. The condition of a 92-year-old man hit Wednesday morning by a Metro-North train was improving Thursday.
Richard Scalise was listed in stable condition at Stamford Hospital, according to hospital officials. The Stamford mans car was crushed just before 10 a.m. Wednesday after being hit by a southbound train at a rail crossing on Camp Avenue, between the Talmadge Hill and Springdale stations. He had been in critical condition Wednesday with four broken ribs.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police were still investigating why Scalises car was on the tracks when the train hit it. Metro-North service was suspended on the New Canaan branch for three hours Wednesday while crews cleaned up and worked to fix a warning gate.
