Singer Returns to Fulfill Her Dreams

Annie Edgerton fell in love with performing while growing up in Darien. Now, after appearing in many productions, including a starring role in the musical "Mamma Mia!" she is excited to come home to perform her one-woman show "Love Bites Back" on Saturday at the Darien Arts Center.

"This is a version of a cabaret show that I first started back in 2007," Edgerton said. "It features a medley of Broadway songs, pop songs, folk and standards. It's a good mix that highlights the ups and downs of love."

Edgerton got her start at a young age. "I got the lead in the second grade, and I haven't looked back," she said. She was in her first professional performance in Stamford at 12. Edgerton performed throughout high school, joining every musical and instrumental group possible.

"I always intended to make performing my career. It's been a lifelong journey," she said. Edgerton's favorite moment happened while on tour in Virginia with "Mamma Mia!" and first got to play the lead role of Donna. "It was exhilarating," she said. "It was one of the best moments of my life, not just of my career."

After the show, Edgerton says she plans to recover after a long summer, as well as to continue to audition for shows in New York. She also wants to do one of her favorite things: sing the National Anthem at Major League Baseball games. "Some fans want to go to a game in every stadium, I want to sing in every stadium. I've sang in 11 out of 30 stadiums so far," she said.

Edgerton, who now lives in Manhattan, is looking forward to performing in Darien again. "Everyone was so supportive when I was growing up, it's great to be able to come back and share with them," she said.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
