Fairfield police apprehended four people early Saturday in connection with two robberies in Darien.
Two of them, Lorena Egas, 39, and Carlos Jadan, 41, of Port Chester, N.Y., were turned over to Darien police. The other two were held on an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement warrant.
The four were stopped on Interstate 95 at 1:45 a.m. Saturday. They told police they needed money and were traveling up and down I-95, breaking into houses.
At 9 p.m. Friday, a resident of Avalon Apartments in Darien reported that somebody had broken into her house and stolen a laptop and some jewelry. She had been out of the apartment from 4:15 to 8:30 p.m. When she returned home, she noticed her living room window screen was missing and the window was shut. She had previously left it open. There were also pry marks on the rear door.
When Fairfield police stopped the four suspects, they found the woman's laptop and jewelry. They also found a Kindle and called the company, which put them in contact with the owner of the Kindle. The owner lives in the Avalon apartment adjacent to the other one that had been robbed. Police found that the rear door had been pried open.
Darien police arrested Egas and Jadan, charging them with second-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary. They also issued warrants for the other two, who were held on ICE detainers.
Egas and Jadan each posted $50,000 bond and will go to court Aug. 16.
