Participants took turns carrying the heavy cross on their shoulders as the re-enacted the events of Good Friday, the day Christians believe Jesus was crucified on a cross. Christians often commemorate the events of that day in a Carrying of the Cross or Stations of the Cross during Lent and especially on Good Friday as the faithful prepare to celebrate Easter, the day Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead..
