DARIEN, Conn. — The First Congregational Church in Darien held its annual Carrying of the Cross on Good Friday, with about 40 people making the 2-mile trek from the First Congregational Church to St. Luke's Church along the busy Boston Post Road.
Participants took turns carrying the heavy cross on their shoulders as the re-enacted the events of Good Friday, the day Christians believe Jesus was crucified on a cross. Christians often commemorate the events of that day in a Carrying of the Cross or Stations of the Cross during Lent and especially on Good Friday as the faithful prepare to celebrate Easter, the day Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead..
An all-community Good Friday worship followed the walk at St. Luke's Church.
Watch the video above as Daily Voice speaks with First Congregational Church Associate Pastor Gary Morello about the event. Morello carried the cross for the first leg of Friday's walk.
